Yeah, So This Happened…

I was dozing off on the couch when my youngest decided to take my iPhone and chuck it at the screen. The iPhone’s okay thank god but the plasma not so much. On the bright side I get to buy a new TV. And the downside is that, I’ll have to spend money. So now the question is do I go for a way bigger LED screen (+15″) or slightly bigger OLED screen (+5″) for a third more of the cost of the LED. Decisions, decisions.

First world problems, I know.

Finally Popped My Omega Ruby Cherry

Finally got around to starting this game. So far so good. The gameplay is nearly identical to X/Y with a few minor differences. I’ve noticed that there’s a heavy emphasis on berries which doesn’t appeal to me at all. My friend mentioned in passing during a late night conversation how he’s been berry obsessed and I didn’t quite understand what he meant. But now that I’m a couple of hours into OR I can totally see what he means. And as much as I like collecting things, the berries are nothing but a nuisance. Other than berries, the sheer number of trainer battles you’re forced to partake in seems to have grown exponentially between X/Y and OR/AS. Kind of annoying.

I imported all my Pokémon I collected from X/Y and all of the downloadable ones since the beginning of the year. I have about 3-4 boxes worth, about 100 or so give or take, but I only have the Hoenn region Pokédex and it says I only have 41. I guess I get the Kalos and/or National Pokédex once I complete the game or something. So for now, I’ll have to use the Hoenn Pokédex numbers to track my progress:

Pokémon count: 41/210
Shiny count: 1/210

I see you, little red star!

My only shiny so far is a shiny Rayquazza from a giveaway sometime last year. Nothing in game yet, but I’m not quite ready to go shiny hunting. Not yet.

Something I miss from X/Y that didn’t make it into OR/AS is the ability to dress your character. It sounds rather silly, especially for a 40-year old man since it’s essentially playing dress-up with an electronic version of a doll, but I think the appeal for me was being able to collect the different outfits. I am a collector by nature: Transformers, sneakers, LEGO, and whatever piqued my interested; I always end up amassing a small hoard of stuff. I’m trying to change my ways though and getting rid of stuff slowly. I think this is why the Pokémon games appeal to me so much: it allows me to satisfy that part of the brain that hungers for collecting things without it taking up too much time or money or space. And as if collecting little pocket monsters wasn’t enough, I really got into collecting pieces of clothing for my character in Pokémon X. Berries: nothing. Hats and skirts: sign me up!

In Omega Ruby there is a different aspect of collecting and customizing for your character though and it’s your “Secret Base”, a sort of headquarters or bachelor/bachelorette pad. I just ran into the guy that introduces my character to the feature. I’m not completely sold on it yet, but I doubt it’ll be as fun as playing dress-up, even for this 40-year old man.

Holy Shit! Shiny Xerneas and Shiny Yveltal Will Soon Be Mine!

shinyxy

When I saw Japan get these shinies I was envious because they look awesome and since X/Y was my first foray into Pokémon, they have a special place in my heart. Nintendo sent out a tweet announcing their availability and I cannot wait to get them into my game. These guys look AWESOME!

  • May 2–8: Zygarde
  • May 11–17: Shiny Xerneas
  • May 20–26: Shiny Yveltal

Why Zygarde was never made shiny is beyond me though but I don’t care. And this explains why I was able to get him the other day.

So excited right now!

Free Zygarde Over Nintendo Network

Zygarde

The month is May now and Darkrai is this month’s mythical Pokémon distribution, but that’s only available through a scratch card you pick up from GameStop stores. I started up my game late last night and went to receive a gift over the internet anyway for shits and giggles and color me surprised to get a free Zygarde legendary. I didn’t see anything mentioned on Serebii or Bulbanews at the time so it was a nice surprise. And he’s available for OR/AS and X/Y.

Hey Lady, Don’t Be A Dick

Hey lady at Blaze Pizza,

Yeah, you. I’m talking to you, the one holding the table for four during prime time dinner rush. I totally get that you saw the long line of people waiting to order their pizza and the restaurant seating was near capacity and that you wanted to hold the table for your family. So you did what we’ve all done at some point in our lives and called dibs on a table from a couple that was getting up. Hell, I’ve done that and sent my wife/friend/co-worker to stake a claim on some seating. But if you see me holding a pizza in each hand and three kids wrapped around my legs looking for a place to sit, why not do the right thing and let my family sit down since we’re ready to eat and your party has yet to order.

Thankfully the table in front of you witnessed the entire exchange and offered their table to us since they were just finishing up and also proceeded to try and clean the table quickly. So I wasn’t put out for too long. Those people, now I like those people. Those are my kind of people. You, though, not so much.

But I bet you felt a little bit bad for telling me you called dibs already on that table you sat down at ’cause you did finally offer your table to us as long as you get the next table the nice family offered to us. But not THAT bad though, right?  ‘Cause when my wife answers you with “It’s up to you” and you still don’t get up then why would you offer? Seriously? If you want to do the right thing, JUST OFFER THE GODDAMN TABLE. If you want to be nice, just be nice. Don’t be nice on a contingency.

I hope you enjoyed your pizza.
